FAQs

What happens at my first appointment?

All new clients will receive a full consultation prior to their first appointment commencing. This serves as a means of data collection to inform therapy and maintain contact with clients. Throughout the programme of treatment the data included here may be updated to reflect changes in treatment, client medical history, contact details or therapist’s assessments. Some useful information you may need to bring are: GP contact details, medication details and sufficient information for a medical history to be completed.
Are there circumstances where I may not receive treatment?

During the initial consultation you will be asked about your medical history. From this information I will be making an assessment as to whether you present any contraindications which may first require your GPs consent for treatment to take place. Whilst Sports Massage is a generally safe form of treatment, there are certain conditions which may preclude treatment or advise that treatment only be carried out with consent of your GP. This will be fully discussed with you at your consultation.
What if I am already receiving other treatments, such as from as Osteopath or Chiropractor?

Both Deep Tissue and  Sports Massage are considered to be very effective when combined with other treatments and in most cases does lead to an accelerated recovery, if the treatments are injury related. I would request that you advise all parties involved that you are receiving additional treatment.
What's the difference between Sports Massage and other types of massage?

There are over 200 different types of massage techniques and types, all treating different needs and providing various benefits.  Sports Massage is a form of deep tissue massage which applies deep pressure to the muscles, focusing on specific trouble points. When you have knotted muscles, want something a bit deeper than a traditional massage or have more specific ailments, more attentive techniques such as deep tissue massage are required. I am always conscious that the massage you receive needs to be right for you, so it is very important to always speak up and let me know if you need the pressure to be adjusted, (i.e. if you need me to lighten up because it is too deep, or to apply more because it is not deep enough). Most people need more pressure in some areas and less in others.
What should I wear to an appointment?

I need to be able to see and access not only the injured/affected are but also assess if the problem is related to other areas of the body. For the lower extremities short, loose shorts are preferred. For upper torso work, ladies are asked to wear a back fastening bra/sports bra. If you have any queries, please ask when making an appointment.
